Celebrating Burns Night & Scottish Food

Kingfisher House Care Home was beaming with laughter and good cheer last week as residents and staff joined together to mark Scottish Food Week and Burns Night in proper Scottish style. Tartan and thistles brightened every corner, creating the perfect backdrop for a week celebrating Scotland’s rich culture, traditions, and community spirit.

Everyone tucked into a mouthwatering menu of classic Scottish favourites, from hearty bowls of Cullen skink to the beloved haggis with neeps and tatties. For those with a sweet tooth, crumbly shortbread and creamy cranachan were a big hit. The celebrations carried on with traditional music, lively poetry readings and smiles all around as everyone joined in the fun.

One of the week’s favourite moments was the Burns Night celebration, where the famous Address to a Haggis was performed with plenty of spirit, followed by a heartfelt toast to Scotland’s beloved poet, Robert Burns. The room came alive with laughter and song as residents clapped along to familiar tunes and shared happy memories together.

It was a wonderful occasion that brought everyone together, reminding us of the joy of good food, good company, and the importance of celebrating heritage. Thank you to all the staff, residents, and families who made it such a special week.
