Outstanding Inspection Success For Kingfisher House
We were delighted to welcome residents, families, friends and members of the local community to celebrate the official Grand Opening of Kingfisher House Care Home. The occasion was made even more special as we also celebrated receiving Grade 5 (Very Good) across every theme in our first Care Inspectorate inspection.
Situated on Dundee Road in Perth on the site of the former Hillside Hospital, our Grand Opening gave us the opportunity to celebrate everything we have achieved so far and thank everyone who has supported us since we opened our doors.
One of the most special parts of the day was welcoming former Hillside Hospital staff back to the site. It was lovely to hear them sharing memories of the hospital and the strong sense of community that existed there. Three former nurses who worked at Hillside Hospital during the 1990s spoke about caring for generations of local families and shared photographs of the original hospital. They also told us their mothers had served there as Red Cross nurses during the 1940s, highlighting the long history of care on the site.
With glorious sunshine throughout the day, our gardens provided the perfect setting for the celebrations. Guests enjoyed an afternoon of entertainment including visits from Alba Therapy Ponies, performances from Beelieve Circus, live music from a local band and the unmistakable sound of a traditional Scottish piper.
We were honoured to officially open Kingfisher House with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Stephen Leckie, Lord-Lieutenant of Perth and Kinross, alongside Councillor Bailie Chris Ahern. Their attendance reflected the importance of bringing care back to a site that has served the local community for generations.
One of the most memorable moments of the day belonged to our very first resident, Frances Kennedy. Joined by her daughter and granddaughter, Frances had the honour of cutting our celebration cake using the Lord-Lieutenant's ceremonial sword instead of a traditional cake knife, which brought smiles and applause from everyone watching.
As if the Grand Opening was not enough to celebrate, we were also incredibly proud to announce another major milestone.
Less than a year after opening our doors, we received Grade 5 (Very Good) across every theme in our first Care Inspectorate inspection.
Inspectors praised our compassionate culture, person-centred approach and exceptional teamwork. During their feedback they spoke about the positive impact our team is already having on residents' wellbeing and quality of life and recognised the genuine whole team approach throughout the home.

Our Grand Opening was a wonderful celebration of everything Kingfisher House stands for. While our home is new, we are proud to continue the site's long history of caring for people and look forward to creating many more special moments with our residents, families and the local community.
